Bio: Cucina Fresca's now second youngest member didn’t even own a road bike until late 2005, and only learned about the local race scene August of 2006. After trying out a couple of crits at Seward Park, he was hooked, and in September joined with Team Zoka. He went on to have a great first season in 2007, and within only 4 months of racing, he upgraded to a Cat 3.

Still looking to excel for 2008, Derek turned to CycleU's Toby Swanson for a coach, who worked him hard all winter, fine tuning his potential. Derek now looks forward to excelling at the Junior National Championships this August, as well as furthering his upgrade status to Cat 2, to ride as J-Dub's domestique, at least for 2008....
